A leader of the photographic community, the founder of the immensely popular groups %iPhotograph and %photohunt - I present: ^AshleyxBrooke!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ashley Brooke. I LOVE gummybears and kneesocks and I'm a photographer oh and I like the color pink
When did you first really start to become enthusiastic about photography, and what sparked it?
I've been into photography since I was in about 3rd grade. I've always had some sort of camera but I didn't get REALLY into until around 2004. My dad thought I had a really good eye for it and said I should join DeviantArt and show it off. So once I did that I just kept shooting more and more.
How did you discover deviantART, and has it made an impact on your passion for photography?
My dad who is also a photographer had signed up for the site and encouraged me to do the same. When I got more involved with the community and other photographers it made me want to keep shooting. There are so many talented people on this site
What kind of equipment do you use/recommend? What kind of equipment do you wish you had to use?
Right now I use the Nikon D70 with the kit lens (18-70mm) and the 50mm I wish I had a macro lens! I see all the stuff people can do with those lenses and I have all these ideas for if I had one But they are so expensive Someday I WILL have one though
In your opinion, what elements does the perfect photo contain?
Good use of color, lighting, clarity and originality
What advice would you give for aspiring photographers?
Never give up on your dream. Practice makes perfect! Etc! Do lots of reading up on photography to help yourself improve. But also form friendships with other photographers and help eachother. That's one of the best things about DeviantArt. Meeting other people to bounce your ideas off of and to get tips and critiques. But most important just keep shooting. There is always room for improvement
You run two popular photography groups on deviantART, #iPhotograph and #photohunt. Do you feel you've made an impact on the deviantART photography community?
Honestly? Yes. Especially from #photohunt. It's really amazing to see people who have played the games for years and you look back from when they first started to now and to see how much their technique has improved. It is just such a great feeling.
I've had many people thank me for creating both rooms (since they are both groups based in chats) , For creating two very warm and friendly environment for people to come and chat. A lot of people always return. So I must be doing something right
In #iPhotograph we try to hold critique nights a couple times a week, which people LOVE. It brings the group together to help each other out with their shooting. We give people tips on how to improve and what to do differently next time they shoot. We have a lot of regulars that keep the chat afloat and without them #iPhotograph would be nothing. So I may say that I've impacted the photography community but I couldn't do it without a long list of people, And they know who they are
And do you have anything else you'd like to add?
I'd just like to say thank you very much for choosing me to be interviewed. These things always make me nervous even though I know they aren't super important If you are a photographer I encourage you to check out both #iPhotograph and #photohunt Also... Like I stated, I love gummybears so if you are reading this right now, go to my page and leave me a gummybear! Thanks a lot guys! Stay awesome and keep shooting
